There is a short note on luminescence dating in the last British Archaeology ("The promise of OSL dating", British Archaeology 90: 54). I hope this is helpful in spreading the word.

CONFERENCE INFORMATION
1. Annual UK Luminescence and ESR Dating Research Meeting-September 12-14, 2007
The annual UK Luminescence and ESR dating research meeting will be held at the University of Sheffield from the 12-14th September 2007. This meeting will be of interest to luminescence dating specialists, Quaternary geologists, archaeologists, dosimetric scientists and some physics researchers by providing an opportunity to discuss the latest research in trapped charge dating and related work. Presentations covering basic physics, methodological issues and the application of these techniques are all welcome. The meeting will consist of both oral and poster presentations, and presentations by research students are especially encouraged.

2. First Announcement: 5th New World Luminescence Dating and Dosimetry Workshop-Oct. 12-13, 2007
The fifth New World Luminescence Dating and Dosimetry Workshop (NWLDDW) will be held at the Dept. of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago. This workshop will follow the “tradition” set in Tulsa, OK (USA); Albuquerque, NM (USA); Halifax, Nova Scotia (Canada); and Denver, Colorado (USA). Workshop presentations are planned for October 12 to 13, 2007 (Friday and Saturday) at the University of Illinois campus in Chicago.
We anticipate two days of presentations and some time for enjoying the Univ. of Illinois campus and the surrounding city. There will be a banquet Saturday night (Oct. 13th) and all are welcome to stay into Sunday to enjoy the many fine museums and sites of Chicago. If sufficient interest is shown, we can organize an architectural tour of Chicago by boat on the Chicago River for Sunday morning. All presentations will be oral.
If you plan to attend the workshop please provide information below in a return email to slf@uic.edu:

PhD Position in Luminescence Dating
at the Nordic Laboratory for Luminescence Dating, University of Aarhus, Risø National Laboratory, Denmark
Dating soil surfaces and stone structures using luminescence dating.
The Nordic Laboratory for Luminescence Dating conducts research into the physical basis underlying luminescence dating, and uses this research to underpin a dating service to geologists and archaeologists. The Laboratory is now offering a fully funded 3 year PhD position to investigate the potential of dating soil surfaces and stone structures using luminescence dating. Luminescence is specifically suited to these types of dating problems; it dates the last time a natural mineral (e.g. quartz) was exposed to daylight. The event dated is the time of emptying (or resetting) of energy trapped within the crystal. This project will develop an understanding of optical resetting in rock surfaces and unconsolidated materials (soils and sediments) by investigating this process in both field samples and laboratory studies. It will then use this understanding to develop methods to date poorly reset materials such as rock and soil surfaces. The successful candidate will most likely be a good physics, physical chemistry or possibly earth science MSc graduate, have a demonstrated ability in laboratory experimental technique, and an interest in archaeology and/or the recent history of the earth’s surface. More details are available on www.nclr.risoe.dk
A Danish PhD includes some coursework, for which attendance at Aarhus and/or Copenhagen Universities may be required. Otherwise the position will be based at Risø National Laboratory, near Roskilde. The Laboratory operates in English.
